Concept: Democracy is a project of the Human/Civil Rights Law Center. Its premise: to serve the public, foster community, civic engagement, and co-creation of our democracy through the humanities and the arts.
The Human/Civil Rights Law Center is a social enterprise devoted to advancing human and civil rights. We accomplish this goal through the following activities:
-
artistic and educational events
-
support of nonprofit organizations providing pro bono or pro se support for immigration legal services
-
free, public informational workshops and deliberative dialogues to strengthen democracy, encourage creative policy solutions, and advance the public good.
To advance these priorities and focus, starting in February 2026, we are not accepting new individual clients for legal representation.
For questions, please contact our Director, Kathy Purnell, at our phone or address or online contact form.

Our work is evolving to advance human dignity and justice by exploring and strengthening our commitment to one another in democracy and to protect due process for all. To sharpen this focus, we are not accepting new clients for individual legal representation.
